Arrival in Fontaine Fourches, unpacking, a short nap
before dinner at the house. Informal orientation and relaxing
evening to get your bearings.

12:00 departure for lunch and afternoon in Provins
for site seeing and painting.
Provins– The
ancient fortified city of Provins sits atop a ridge
overlooking the Seine valley and the Champagne chalklands,
roughly equidistant from both Paris
and Troyes.
The town has a famous outline, dominated by a tower and the dome of Eglise St-Quiriace. Provins’ role as an important centre of commerce was
confirmed in the 12C when it became one of the two capitals of the County of
Champagne.

Day 3

12:00 departure for afternoon of local village brocantes.
Lunch at local brocante.
During the summer months, France’s countryside is filled with local
festivals and small brocantes. These are a
combination flea market/ garage sale/ festival with a mixture of local citizens
and professional merchants. Going to the brocantes
every weekend seems to be a French tradition, you will
see Parisians out for the weekend and locals, all looking for the treasures to
be found. This is a real treat that is always a hit with Americans though
probably not on any tours.

Day 4

9:00 departure to Troyes for site seeing and
sketching.
Troyes
is a charming, medieval city. We will begin the day with a guided walking tour with an
English speaking tourguide. You have a choice to explore the numerous
museums and churches in the ancient city or to sketch within helping distance
of the instructor. We will meet back together for dinner.
Late evening return to the house.

by train and metro. Tour of the Musee d’Orsay
This day is designed to give you a feel of Paris
with help in learning to get around. You will learn to negotiate the french train, metro, and bus system with the help of guides
and staff members holding your hand when needed. This excursion is to try and
give you a few bearings and “land legs” for future trips to Paris and not an
all inclusive visit
.

Late, lazy morning.
Even a short day to Paris
can be exhausting, so the morning will be free to sleep, read, work in the studio, bike, or hike. The weekly market in
Bray-sur-Seine will be scheduled for those that would
like to browse and take pictures.

Painting excursions in the countryside and small villages. These days will be
tailored to the weather in order to have a much time painting on location as
possible. There will be enough time on the last day to pack portfolios for
traveling.
