Join artist and instructor Margaret Dyer for a workshop in the beautiful French countryside. We’ll set up a boudoir scene in the studio and work with the figure in her environment, spending a session with our cameras as well. We’ll take excursions to Paris and village markets in the historic Champagne region for more photos, then back to the studio to paint. Every moment will be filled with the French experience. Open to artists of all experience levels, even beginners. Although this is primarily a pastel class and demonstrations will be in pastels, artists who prefer to work in oil are welcome. For those wanting to speed up and become less tight in their work, this is an excellent class to take. Students do not need prior pastel experience. Some drawing would be helpful, but not imperative. Margaret, a Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America, has been featured in The Artists Magazine, American Artist, International Artist, Pastel Artist International, The Pastel Journal, "How Did You Paint That?-100 Ways to Paint People & Figures, Vols. 1 and 2", and "Pure Color: The Best of Pastels". Create your own piece of art history and capture your precious moments in Paris. Let your watercolours create a visual phrasebook of your trip. Mike Ferris will tutor you in the finer points of capturing the moment as well as imparting the finer points of classic still life flowers for which he is renowned. Flowers offer an endless combination of colours and shapes to inspire paintings. The course will included studio classes and demonstrations of flowers and still life as well as provincial French landscapes and buildings. Some time will be spent doing field sketches and painting plein air. Watercolour is a medium capable of facilitating those special qualities of light shade and shadow, no matter whether in the studio or in the French countryside. Mike’s outdoor sketching will demonstrate simple techniques for setting up a sketch or painting and mastering perspective drawing. Field sketches can be refined in the studio or individual students can focus on their desired studio paintings. Michael is a watercolour artist based in Cairns, Australia. Living in this region has given Michael a great love of the fantastic flora and fauna that abounds there. His paintings of orchids have won him three first prizes in Australian Artist Magazines’ still life and floral challenges Recently Michael has had an 8 page article in International Artist Magazine Apr/May 2004.
