La Bonne Etoile Artists Retreat was specifically developed to assist artists and writers who would benefit from an experience in another culture, along with a time of seclusion and solitude. But through the years it has developed into more....a community of friends. La Bonne Etoile Blog has been designed to expand the richness of that community by continuing the quest to create and recreate together.

The Wall: we promise…it won’t hurt

Do what? I painted for one hour on this and you want ME to pin it up on The Wall? It is not finished! I never show my work in this state. What will my students think? What will I think? Panic! I need to crop it first, sign it, perfect it…not…put your name on the back and stick that piece of paper on the wall.

Ah, come on. Remember The Wall at La Bonne Etoile? By the end of the week, you weren’t able to tell the difference between your paintings and those of someone light-years more advanced than you. We were all doing something ‘out of the norm’, different color palettes, different schedules, and different challenges, all the while… having fun and making new friends.
And, believe me, we all ‘know’ that not every attempt makes it into a frame…otherwise; we’d all be bored by now!

In the next few weeks, we will be experimenting with different methods of posting to The Wall. But, for the time being, send an email with the current painting you are working on to vickilou92@cox.net ….remember….The Wall is reserved for paintings in progress or completed paintings that were done in one painting session, whether it was 1 hour or one day. Enclose a simple comment or two and then watch for a post on the LBE Blog.

I promise you, it won’t hurt.

For all of you leaving comments -  don’t forget – encouraging and cheerleading comments only.

Participating alums who would like critiques, can make a request for these by emailing a note to kristina@labonneetoile.com.  Your request will be forwarded to some of the past instructors for any suggestions or comments they might share with you by private email.

I’m going to do the first post (whoo-hoo!) with a little oil I did last week (I had my first experience with oil standing right up in the studio during Ann Templeton’s workshop).
